BLAME SALLY- Glorious, compelling, extravagantly delightful

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - "Dallas has its Dixie Chicks, and San Francisco has Blame Sally", the difference being, among other things, that Blame Sally's music is a little more indie, a little less country, a little more brainy and Blame Sally first released their potent anti-war song way back in 2001.  An updated version of that song is one of the 12 tracks on their third release, Severland, the album that looks poised to bring this all-woman band the attention fans and cirtics have long felt they are due.  To highlight the release, a music video of "If You Tell a Lie" has been featured on Neil Young's politically charged website, 'Living With War,' and has risen to number two in downloads, where it has remained since September 11, 2006.

Their music, which has been described as emotionally charged, passionate, highly melodic and compelling, has been played on radio stations around the country. Their performance schedule has taken them from San Francisco, CA to Sardinia, Italy, including performances at some of the country's finest acoustic music festivals (such as Strawberry Music Festival, Four Corners Folk Festival, Live Oak Music Festival), concert halls and listening rooms.  They are currently in rotation on the "XM Cafe".

With Severland, Blame Sally has moved into a slightly different territory from their previous CDs. "In some ways the new CD reflects a departure from our earlier releases," said Monica Pasqual. "The songs we were writing for Severland were much more a statement on these times.  Politically, socially and personally we were faced with hardships - a war, a serious illness when one band member was diagnosed with breast cancer and coming to terms with the end of a long-term relationship . . . hence the title.  At the same time, we were also experiencing the rewards of learning to love more deeply as partners, parents, friends and citizens of the world.  I think that Blame Sally's music will always be changing because we've never approached our songwriting as just craft or pop.  Our songs have always been much more about process, what we feel inside and what's happening around us."

The four women from BLAME SALLY are exceptional players from very different musical backgrounds who sing and write with distinctive voices.  With Pasqual on keyboards and Delgado on percussion, Harcourt and Jones trade back and forth the bass and guitar bringing their own Americana and pop flavor to the mix.  Like a modern-day Fleetwood Mac or Beatles, BLAME SALLY features all four women as songwriters and lead singers, backing each other up with lush harmonies and infectios rhythms.

"Severland", the latest CD from Blame Sally is out and getting raves and gaining momentum:

"An amazing collection of talented local musicians has banded together and released a stunning new CD.  "Severland", the latest from San Francisco's Blame Sally, should bring this female foursome universal acclaim.  Individually, Renee Harcourt, Monica Pasqual, Jeri Jones and Pam Delgado have long displayed stirring singer-songwriter gifts.  Together they're a powerhouse unit, presenting outstanding lead vocals and harmonies. "Severland" carves out a strong identity on the indie-pop edges of Americana.  Among the highlights (though there's not a weat track among the dozen here) are the riveting title tune, the piano-driven "Fillmore Street," the haunting "Devil to Pay" and the country-rocker "Trouble." Admirers of Dar Williams, Jonatha Brooke, Indigo Girls and intelligently emotional, intricately  harmonized folk-pop in general will find much to praise in "Blame Sally", the self-titled, self-released first studio recording by an all-female  Bay  Area quartet that became a  KFOG favorite on the strength of a live album. Blame Sally has four strong singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists in Pam Delgado, Jeri Jones, Renee Harcourt and Monica Pasqual, and while their individual voices are appealing, their harmonies are addictively creamy. Imaginatively arranged, expansive narrative songs such as  "Touch",  "Shame",  and "Planet Ranch"  are radio (and coffee shop) ready.

The Story of Blame Sally is a San Francisco super-group of sorts. This "girl-band" is distinguished by the fact that all four women are exceptional songwriters, instrumentalists and vocalists. They all contribute songs and arrangements, switch off lead vocals and trade instruments.

Though all of them have lead their own bands, in the fall of 2000 these four friends decided to come together and create a 'living room band", hanging out a couple of times a week, cooking dinner, drinking wine and teaching each other new material. Before long, the just-for-fun project was drawing large crowds of fans at some San Francisco's premier acoustic venues (Noe Valley Ministry and the Freight and Salvage, for example).
By May of 2001, the band had developed such a distinctive and cohesive sound, they decided to record a live CD. They played two shows in Berkeley, California, from which the 11 tracks on Live No. 1 were culled.

Kudos for Blame Sally's self-titled cd:
"The fans who made ladies-only quartet Blame Sally a KFOG favorite (and highlight of the station's new local-bands-only CD) must be loving the band's eponymous studio album. Harmonizing femme-folk integrity with pop playfulness isn't as easy as they make it sound; this is sweet, charming stuff".
- Jonathan Kiefer, San Francisco Magazine, September 2004

"The newest self-titled disc by Blame Sally (blamesally.com) is a rich and sophisticated effort that blends touches of Tex Mex, folk, and pop for a thoroughly enjoyable listening experience."
- Out Smart Magazine, Houston, October 2004.

"...These chicas know what they're doing...Blame Sally is a fine debut that seems to be making converts wherever it's played. The attention is deserved - this disc is a winner.
- Heather Seggal, Bitch Magazine, Summer 2004 Issue

"...Blame Sally has unleashed 13 well-crafted combinations of pop-motivated folk.  But mostly, these women are just good old storytellers."
- Rebecca Jane Alber, Curve Magazine, August 2004

"...Blame Sally weaves lush guitars and vivid vocals through touching and introspective songs.  Think a sultry post-modern Joni Mitchell meets Indigo Girls.  My top picks: Birds Fly South, Lucky, Stupid Mistakes, Disappear, and Planet Ranch."
- DJ Pusspuss, The Spectrum, June 2004
